Aart Neven was born in Waddinxveen.
'I have a mechanical engineering degree, but after a few years I have worked as a technical draftsman-constructor, switched to commerce. In recent years as a branch and sales manager at a building materials trade.
In 1979 I moved to Woudrichem. Here, inspired by the river landscape, I put the first brush strokes on canvas. Only after my retirement in 2010 did I develop this further. I have not followed a course or painting course. I am completely self-taught.
"Even up to this day Woerkum is a source of inspiration for me. A number of paintings on this subject can be seen at the exhibition. Other topics are also covered, such as harbor views and animals. Nature and culture always return in my paintings, such as the Biesbosch and Alblasserwaard. Characteristic in my work is that there is almost always water present. I have been making paintings on commission several times. At the moment I live with my wife in Almkerk, where I have my studio in the attic'.
