De Vereniging tot Behoud van de Zalmschouw (VBZ) is a conservation organization for authentic Dutch river fishing vessels. In fact, all sailing monuments. Just like the buildings in the Netherlands wich are under monument protection, we are currently working hard to also classify Dutch mobile heritage and register it as monuments. Like several other conservation organizations of historic ships, the VBZ is represented in the Federation of Sailing Heritage Netherlands (FVEN), which represents all our interests at national and international political level.
Woerkumshoekske would like to let you enjoy all the beauty that Woudrichem has to offer. We try to visualize the present and past of Woudrichem. Hopefully you can enjoy the street scene of Woudrichem around 1900 and of the present.
Zalmvisserskoor "ONGESTAAGD" (unstayed) was established in 1996 as a committee of the Association for the Conservation of Salmon Boats and since January 2003 it has been an independent association.
On the rivers around Dordrecht, Werkendam and Woudrichem, far along the Meuse, river fishing was practiced, there were formerly salmon fishing. The fishermen spent the entire week aboard a salmon boat, this is an open boat, ahead with a hood (a tent) of sail including sleeping and living area. It was sailed with a sprit rig, the mast of the salmon boat is loose, so without stays. This is called "unstayed". Hence the name of this tough choir.

The techniques that are taught here are also applicable to sails made of synthetic material, provided of course they are ment for traditional ships.
